PRC-174 DIY BATTERY CONNECTOR

This new page contains info on how to easily make a do-it-yourself power connector for a PRC-174 battery pack.

Start with two female large molex pins, and crimp and solder the red and black wire to them.  Then cover each molex pin with heat shrink tubing (red for the + and black for the -).

Stand your PRC-174 up upside town on the top handles, so the power connector faces you.  Cut a 2" piece of standard electrical tape, and carefully put it around the power connector shell to make a form for the hot glue to go in.

Put the red and black molex pins on the + and - pins of the radio.  Make sure they are nice and snug as this is the last chance you will have to adjust them.  Tighten them a hair if needed so they push on snug, and leave them on the radio.

Using a hot glue gun, pump the form you made out of electrical tape full of glue, completely surrounding the molex pins, and make a nice round top around the wires, being careful not to spill the glue over the edge.

Let the glue completely set up, 15-30 minutes.  Remove the tape.

Gently rock the plug back and forth while pulling back to get it to release from the third (unused) pin on the connector.

You're done!
